FOOD FOR THOUGHT

now lets try reading the title in reverse , have we ever spared a thought for food , no im not talking about the craving for mouth watering delicacies here , im talking about the effort taken for the hot meal ready on our plates,

the impact our diet has on the ecosystem ,  i ve been  subject to pangs of guilt for being a non vegetarian myself, here s why we should focus on eating a more balanced diet,  it takes far greater resources for feeding a non vegetarian than a vegan, cattle are being fattened up on grain that could have directly supported hungry mouths , so there is a greater strain on  the ecosystem in terms of water usage and fodder crop,  there s another problem as well,   cattle in general  are known to emit large amounts of methane , this happens as a byproduct of cellulase metabolism, this methane is far more potent at causing the green house effect than plain co2 ,
we are fortunate to have such a large variety of stuff to munch into   ,     our  grandparents didnt get to eat this sort of wonderfull varied kinds of foodstuff , but wait a minute they are the ones who are better off , because they ate foodstuff that was grown with organic manure ,  what are we eating , well recently so many people were expressing their concern on the safety of gm crops, they say that the crops might be toxic, well have we paid any attention to the sorts of  fertilizer and toxic pesticides that are being used, these toxic materials find their way in to the food chain somehow

there s yet another problem , we got too many mouths to feed in our country and too little space to do it, add to it the unpredictable monsoons causing droughts and floods , and people who want to grab agricultural land for their fancy projects , we really have to salute our poor farmers , people who give so much and yet get next to nothing in return , next time we enjoy a hearty meal lets spare a thought for the poor souls who grew our food with their blood and sweat

the devil's workshop

Wrong and Right  were in for a fight ,
They clashed with all their might
 They drew their bowstrings tight,
         and shot piercing arrows bright
just when things got a little tough,
some thing went wrong for mr.right
   poor mr right took flight
and ran away into the darkness of the night,
i was taken aback to find , this battle was inside my mind ,
i took my rule book and threw it aside,
and   in me wrong grew inside

thank you      such a  tiny word that can never be enough to say how grateful i am for everything i have,  there d be quite a lot of difference between what i desire and what i deserve  ,but i ve been lucky beyond my wildest dreams    loving and caring family and friends ,  most wonderful people i had the chance to meet on my way ,wonderful people i m most fortunate to call my friends ,  thank you is too small a word to say to those people for all they ve been to me ....................

my mind is a mad monkey

when i was a little boy i wanted to grow up faster , watching  those annas playing cricket i was yearning for the day id be tall  just like them , then after growing up my biggest fantasy is going back to those days when i was a little kid , my mind is a mad monkey that always jumps from one branch to the next , but the thing is it always wants to go back to the branches that have long fallen ,  i never understood the value of many people when they were around , only when they are not with me any longer do i miss them ,   out of sight out of mind isnt true in my case .....,      absence makes the heart grow fonder  that d be right for me
i recieved a interesting little note from a friend that she hadnt heard me talking for the better part of a year , there are many things i should have told many people , a few things i shouldnt have told some people , but most of the time i was snoozing in class so i couldnt say anything to anybody ,  it hurts me now that there are many wonderful people that i couldnt get to know  as much as i should have ,  i had longed for the day id b free at last , but when that day came i was blinking in disbelief , i really didnt want it to end , :(

pazhayana kazhithalum puthiyana puguhtalum

boghi is NOT about  making huge fires out of rubber tyres , plastic bags and other rubbish ..............
It stands for forgetting the bad   and to bring in the new with joy and happiness , it stands for forgetting those things that ought to be forgotten and to cheerfully usher in the new , the purity emphasized here is the purity of the mind , you can also contribute to the purity of your surroundings by not burning stuff during bhogi , see that smog that we get on the morning of bhogi , we can put a stop to that ...  , it isnt too difficult to recycle , u can collect your used stuff  newspapers, notebooks and stuff and give it to the waste paper fellow...........
please do ur bit to have a smokeless bhogi

spirit of thanksgiving

pongal is a very special festival as it stands for being grateful for the bounty MOTHER NATURE has given us , to say thank you to everybody who s helped us ,  i like the way the farmers acknowledge the help provided by their beasts of burden  aka mattu pongal , many of us dont know how enthusiastically the festival is celebrated , well there isnt much to celebrate when you have not one but TWO films featuring the great actor vijay on t.v to celebrate ... dont they pity the poor viewers  :) :)
on a more serious note on this occasion of thanksgiving , lets all spare a thought for those poor farmers who give so much yet get very little in return , its high time they got the attention they deserve , solutions must be found for the various problems they face so that farmers are not driven by despair to quit ,  lets say thank you to mother nature for her bounty on this wonderful day.......

the things that we take for granted are the things we ll miss the most

there are many things that we take for granted in this world ,it never crosses our thought that these things would not be there if we continue our habit of mindless wastage . the nations of the world are more worried about the figures of GDP and rise in public consumption than their part in environmental degradation. .we are pretty much focussed on short term profitability whilst hardly giving a thought for sustainability. in short we are hacking at the  very roots that support us , just to make merry in the here and now . we need to think about  mother nature as well , we shouldnt disturb the delicate balance she so admirably maintained till we decided to take matters into our own hands . lets join hands in saving our only home , to spare a thought for our planet  because what we do to the earth is what we do towards ourselves .........

EVERY BEGINNING HAS AN END

every beginning has an end , this iron rule nobody can bend
good friends a lot , im happy to have got
im bad and rotten , i deserve to be forgotten
my friends  are far too good , forget them i never would

miles to go before i sleep

whose woods these are ,i think i know
his house is in the village though
he ll not see me stopping here ,to watch his woods fill up with snow
my little horse must think its queer , to stop without a farmhouse near,
between the woods and the lake the darkest evening of the year....
THE WOODS ARE LOVELY DARK AND DEEP
BUT I HAVE PROMISES TO KEEP
AND  MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP..........

where the mind is without fear

Where the mind is without fear , and the head is held high
where knowledge is free,
where the world is not yet broken up by narrow domestic walls,
where words come out from the depths of truth,
where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection,
where the clear stream of reasoning , has not been lost in the dreary desert sand of habit,
in that heaven oh FATHER , let my country lie
